Becoming a wife and a mother is often an important part of a woman's life. But that is no reason to give up on your career dreams!
Becoming a wife and a mother is often an important part of a woman’s life. But that is no reason to give up on your career dreams!
A lot has been said and written about how women are crying from the rooftops to give them ‘special preference’. I feel that women put aside a lot of things to bring about harmony in their respective families, and in turn in the society.
While growing up, their parents are told by one and all to treat the girl child at par with the male counterparts. They send them to the best of schools, colleges and hope that one day they will transform into educated individuals. And it happens.
Then, comes marriage. It is indeed a wonderful institution which marks a woman’s foray in the world of relationships which are new and the newfound love of a man who suddenly becomes the most important person in her life.
No matter how strong a woman is, she gradually, from hereon, begins to compromise on her occupation. And it is not her folly. Our society is as such that it expects women to step down from her occupational pursuits every now and then. The husband is considered the soul bread earner, so she has to be the one to bid adieu to her career goals.
Once she becomes a mother, it becomes a tougher road thereon. She as a mother has to be there for her child. If she works, she is judged and harbours guilt which is all pervading, if she does not, she constantly questions herself, “I am good enough or have I lost my sheen”.
Her love for her child and family is so supreme that she gives all up to make her home a happy place. But, is it justified of her to give up her dreams and aspirations? I know it is easier said than done. But, a woman deserves to be happy and she should go out there and do something meaningful if she has it in her. Down the line, when the children will leave the nests, how will she fill the pit of nothingness?
Like men, we too have the right to dream and work towards fulfilling our dreams. It is very easy to abandon one’s dream but are we being fair to ourselves then? So gear up and start following your pursuits now:
Everyone has at one point of time thought of doing something when one grows up. And many have even studied hard to reach there. So, pull up your socks, women, work towards your goal. Take up that job, muster up the courage to go out there. It is all in the mind.
Human beings are learners. We constantly learn something new. I once read about an old man who studied to earn a masters degree at a point when he was on the threshold of his life. If he can, why cannot you? It can be anything that you have always dreamt of doing. We live only once, do not let your dream go into oblivion while you are engrossed in the usual humdrums of life.
Believe me, your children would be the happiest to see you evolving. Communicate them as to what you are doing. By doing this you will be setting a wonderful example and unconsciously telling them that their mother is just a human being who make mistakes and learns from them, who like them wants to better herself with each passing day.
Lastly, shed all your inhibitions. Do not be afraid of the society and most significantly do not be hounded by your own fears. Just go out there and live a life you have always wanted to live because if you take yourself for granted, so will everyone else.
