Woman In Progress

“She was muttering, is this the fate of my being? She was portrayed as a woman with no character, a woman who had flings. We consoled her, hugged her”.

Sitting in my room watching TV at a low volume,

I heard a sobbing voice, as if it was an animal that got hurt badly,

Weeping in ‘coos’ by the wall side besides my room.

I looked up, ten was the time.

I told mom I heard something.

As we approached the wall, I was aghast by the view.

She was in tears, sobbing and inconsolable.

Her clothes were torn,

Her faith was gone.

Me and mom held her and the two innocents by her side.

Unlike always, the pain, the thrashes, she didn’t try to hide.

Gulping a sip of water, she sipped in the pain and her eyes closed.

Tears rolled down from the corner of her swollen eyes and rested on her hands..

Open hair, Torn. A dark spot near the chin.

Was that a punch? Her body was in shivers and heart in chaos.

He had dragged her by her hair.

He had shattered her soul.

She was muttering, is this the fate of my being?

She was portrayed as a woman with no character, a woman who had flings.

We consoled her, hugged her.

She took a sigh which blew the hair on my face.

The sigh was full of despair and silent screams.

The elders of the family were in rage,

And decided his fate was only behind the cage.

It was past midnight, a huge police van came and went towards his home.

The cannibal was dragged in to it.

I wish we could have seen him cry and plead.

Thinking of all this we moved to our rooms.

The three rooms were in a straight line and inter connected.

The kids wished to sleep with their mom, who can caress their hearts except her?

As we lay on our beds,

I realized today all the three rooms were occupied with a certain grief and silence.

Everyone was awake with lights off and thinking of what happened in past few hours.

The moon light was peeping in to all the three rooms.

What was about that night? It had brought so many things with it.

An ease from the long suffering,

A hope for the despair,

A sense of liberty.

This was years back but things have not changed much in the society.

But what has changed, is woman’s approach towards herself.

Gradually, she has learned to stand for herself.

Every time she stands for herself,

She is standing for many other women too.
