Best Ways To Make Your ‘Move’ Easy

Shifting to your new home? Use these tips to make your move easy.

Moving into a new house is a challenging task which requires a lot of work like packing, loading and unloading. These are three simple words but they demand detailed and strategic planning. Shifting to your new dream home or just moving closer to school or office; relocating due to transfer or moving to a spacious apartment, the reason to move from one house to another may vary but the action remains same for all.

Its always better to start the work a week ahead of the scheduled move unless you are allocating the work to a professional company. Then you are almost free from work, you need to just guide them to pack your things in the way you want. If not so, you need to be prepared to do the following:

  • Segregate all the items based on their make and use. Then pack them accordingly.
  • Mark the boxes with symbols based on the items inside like kitchenware, electronics, kids’ stuff etc.
  • Safeguard documents, certificates, cash, jewellery &medicines. Carry it with yourself. Never place along with other household items.
  • Mark boxes carrying glass and delicate items with ‘HANDLE WITH CARE and place them separately. Wrap them in old hand towels or waste clothes so that they do not break.
  • Discard all the waste and give away unused items. No point carrying trash from one house to the other.
  • Take help from the gas agency to carry cylinders and gas stoves safely.
  • Call service personnel to dismantle and fix DTH, water purifiers and other household appliances.
  • Move your pets to safety before you shift. If you have a caretaker or a home where your pet is comfortable, it is best to keep them there in safe custody.
  • If you plan to carry your most loved plant, place an icepack in the pot making a small hole in it. So, that it is watered till you reach your new home.
  • As far as possible don’t carry any leftover chemicals and disinfectants.
  • Most importantly don’t forget to change your address in your banks, aadhaar card, voter ID, driving license, passport etc.

Happy shifting!
