Kalki Koechlin announced her pregnancy with boyfriend Guy Hershberg, and became an inspiration for women all over with her ideas about pregnancy
Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin has time and again impressed people with her performances in movies like ‘Dev-D, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewaani’ and even the web series ‘Made In Heaven’ and ‘Sacred Games 2.’ Recently, she impressed and inspired the people everywhere with her personal life decisions.
According to a report in HT Brunch, the actress is pregnant with her first child with boyfriend Guy Hershberg. In an exclusive interview, she spoke about how being pregnant is affecting her subconsciously, and how she has plans for her baby.
She told Brunch, “I already feel the changes in the way I react to things. I am more deliberate, slower, more patient. When motherhood comes eventually, it brings with it a new consciousness to your sense of person. I still want to work but it is less about the rat race and more about nurturing oneself through one’s work. It becomes about infusing concentration and energy inward.”
The way Kalki has planned her pregnancy definitely makes her an inspiration. She is five months pregnant with boyfriend Guy Hershberg.
Now, if you agree or not, in our country, where a woman’s sole purpose in life is to get married and have a baby, having a baby while being unmarried is a big thing. Why, you ask? Because, ‘samaj kya kahega?’ (what will the society say).
Kalki’s interview revealed that she and Guy are not exactly dismissive of the idea of marriage. Still for them, it wasn’t a prerequisite to take their relationship forward and have a baby. Another fascinating thing about her that she is having her first child at the age of 35.
The interview reported that ‘Six years ago, Kalki was rebelling against the idea of motherhood in magazine features and think-pieces. She has spanned the journey from being against marriage in her early 20s, then marrying; rejecting the pressure of expected motherhood, and now embracing it in her mid-30s. She wears her evolution with the comfort of having grown into it, bud to bloom.’
Now in a society where women are cautioned about their ‘ticking biological clock,’ actresses like Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee, and now Kalki has come out as an inspiration that one should have a baby only when they are ready.
Thanks to the rising awareness about women’s rights, advanced reproductive technologies and increased life expectancy, pregnancy even at the age of 74 is possible.
So Kalki is an answer to all those neighbourhood aunties who say ‘Beta Umar nikalti ja rai hai bacha ab nahi karogi to kab karogi?’ (Your biological clock is ticking it’s better if you get pregnant before it’s too late).
Another fascinating way in which Kalki Koechlin is planning motherhood is that she is opting for a natural water birth. Water-birth, is where the labouring mother is in a birth pool filled with lukewarm water, with at least, a part of the labour and delivery or both taking place in it.
Not just that, she has, reportedly, chosen a gender-neutral name for her baby. “I’ve chosen a name that works for either gender and that is representative of a gay person. I want my child to have that freedom of movement under the many umbrellas of gender that we have,” she was quoted saying in the interview.
In a world where learning the idea of acceptance is very important, Kalki has inspired people by showing that it doesn’t matter if your kid is a boy, girl or a transgender. If, on growing growing up, the child ends up liking the same gender, it’s fine because after all, in the end, they are your kid. You need to accept them as they are.
Kalki also mentioned in the interview about her plans on her parenting style. She opened up that all she wants as a mother is to connect with her child. “I know that I want to be an engaged parent. My concern is to connect with my child, not to have a particular rule, or expectation,” she said.
Also while she is pregnant she is still working on a web series. About her work life, she even mentioned that, “I still want to work but it is less about the rat race and more about nurturing oneself through one’s work. It becomes about infusing concentration and energy inward.”
With announcing her pregnancy Kalki has not even just opened up to her fans but also given many women out there the inspiration to accept their life, their kids and most importantly not to have kids because society wants you. Instead, have them when you are ready for them.
