Did you know India is the largest producer of milk in the world? We contribute 23% to global milk production! From 1998 onwards, we are the world’s biggest producer and consumer of dairy products. According to the IMARC report, the dairy market in India’s size reached INR 14,899.8 Billion in 2022!
At the International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit (IDF WDS) 2022 in India, the Prime Minister in his speech reminded the nation, of the great contributions of Indian women in the advancement and success of the dairy industry!
“Dairy as an industry employs more than 80 million rural households, with the majority being small and marginal farmers as well as the landless. The cooperative societies have not only made the farmers self-sufficient but have also broken the shackles of gender, caste, religion, and community. Women producers form the major workforce of the dairy sector in the country. The sector is an important job provider, especially for women, and plays a leading role in women’s empowerment.”
Here are six remarkable women, who are modernizing the dairy sector and in the process to do so are also empowering women dairy farmers from across India!
Akshali Shah, is Executive Director at Parag Milk Foods. Her company is now one of India’s most elite private dairy companies. From milking to packaging, she managed Pride of Cows, a premium brand of milk.
Animall is an online P2P livestock listing and trading platform. It allows the user to buy and sell their cattle and buffaloes online. Animall has enabled dairy producers to start their own farms by providing them with an ‘easy-to-use’ mobile application that allows them to swiftly and efficiently source premium cattle.
Aashna is the Co-Founder and COO at MoooFarm, ‘Dairy As A Service’ (DASS), with women dairy farmers at the centre. MoooFarm provides an app which makes buying inputs (cattle feed and cattle) more reliable and gives farmers access to veterinary services and dairy farming techniques.
Richie is an end-to-end Dairy Value Chain expert and a dedicated Development Professional. Agarwal works with CSR organizations to implement their projects, empowering women and strengthening the skills of dairy farmers to increase their revenue and improve the health of their cattle.
Truly Desi was founded in 2016, by Rupali and her husband with an aim to provide people with dairy products that are pure, unadulterated, and 100% certified organic. The company’s mission is to collaborate closely with farmers in rural India, particularly in the regions around Pune.
