The Complete Guide To Becoming Pregnant is a must-read for couples who are having trouble conceiving and want to explore Assisted Reproductive Technologies.

The Complete Guide to Becoming Pregnant is not a garden variety book about getting pregnant, for couples with no fertility issues. Having said that, this is a must read for couples who are having trouble conceiving and do have fertility issues. It is written by noted fertility expert, Dr. Firuza Parikh, who is the Director of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, with over 5,000 Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) babies to her credit. She is also the Editor-In-Chief of the Indian edition of Fertility and Sterility. This book takes the reader through the causes of infertility, with real life examples and how these could be resolved with various infertility treatments.

Infertility is growing at a high rate in India, with an estimated 10 to 12 percent of Indian couples reporting infertility issues. Infertility clinics have mushroomed in India over the past decade, with skilled doctors working with the best processes and cutting edge technology available to get couples the child of their dreams.

With a foreword by Nita Ambani and an afterword by choreographer Farah Khan who had her triplets with some help from Dr. Parikh, the book is detailed in its description of causes of infertility in men and women and starts off with the simplest of causes, talks about a case study specific to the cause, and details possible treatment options for each.

Preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of infertility at a later stage if one doesn’t want to go in for children immediately are also discussed. These include procedures like freezing eggs and sperm for future use, lifestyle modifications, de-stressing and even minimally invasive surgery.

For couples going through the procedures, and trying to figure out their treatment options, this book will prove immensely valuable because it explains in detail the causes of infertility, and the medications which need to be prescribed and the treatment procedure, so they know what to expect, and their further options should this treatment not give them the desired results.

The Complete Guide to Becoming Pregnant demystifies all the procedures and the aura around ART and does so in a chatty manner that makes it easy to assimilate. What does grate though are the constant references to Dr. Parikh’s discussions with her husband, Rajesh, who may definitely be a wonderful person, but seems superfluously placed into the scheme of this book.

Never miss real stories from India's women.
